To See Clearly, Check Yearly!

To See Clearly, Check Yearly! Many of our patients ask us, “how often should eye get my eyes checked?”  Most people know to visit their dentist twice a year, and to make sure they keep up to date with yearly physicals. But there seems to be some general confusion regarding how often eye exams should be performed.

If you currently wear glasses or contact lenses, we recommend having your eyes examined once a year. In the state of Maryland, contact lens prescriptions expire every year and glasses prescriptions expire after two years. These annual eye exams are meant to address any changes in vision or eye health so that patients can see their best throughout the year!

The eyes are the only place in the body where your doctor can observe your blood vessels directly, without requiring invasive procedures. For this reason, even patients with excellent vision should have routine eye exams in order to rule out changes from vascular disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain thyroid conditions. There are also a whole host of other eye conditions that can affect our vision as we age, including: cataracts, age related macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

At Federal Hill Eye Care, we care for your eyes through the use of the most advanced imaging technologies available, all while maintaining a casual and friendly office environment. If you have gone over a year without an eye exam, stop in to schedule an appointment or give us a call at (410) 752-8208.
